The TRAPEZE project, which brings together VINCI Autoroutes, Ecov, Nokia Bell Labs, Actemium Paris Transport, Mobility ITS, and Cerema, has won the “Automated road mobility, connected and low-carbon service infrastructures” call for projects as part of the fourth Investments for the Future (PIA4) – France 2030.

This three-year project intends to provide an optimized shared mobility beta service with a carpooling route, the usage of a specific, limited-access high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane, and a user-connection solution. After that, the system will be evaluated in real-world scenarios and on existing infrastructure.

TRAPEZE fully corresponds with the France 2030 program’s aims of “developing sustainable, sovereign, and resilient mobility” as well as the national policy to expedite the transition to “decarbonised and digitised mobility.”

Forecast scenarios under France’s National Low Carbon Strategy indicate that road transportation will continue to be the leading mode of transportation for the foreseeable future, accounting for 85% of personal travel in the country. Road use needs to be decarbonized in order to reduce the carbon emissions of the mobility sector, which makes up nearly one-third of greenhouse gas emissions in the country.
